The smallest possible square footage was met as per the project requirements, at 6276 square feet.

Concept.

‘Kikuchi’, named after the Japanese blacksmithing family who owns the company, uses Japanese design principles to create a blend of moody formality and residential coziness in the workplace environment.

Cultivate: Work

Innovative techniques.

The design solution facilitated the programmatic requirement of a flat hierarchy in the context of a traditionally hierarchical workplace culture, by designating areas of formality through functional zoning. The layout of a traditional Japanese house was utilized as inspiration for zoning and circulation.

AutoCAD, SketchUp massing model, hand-rendered with Procreate (iPad app).
